The Mayor of Brighton & Hove paid a visit to the city’s Trans Pride Centre this week, meeting with organisers to discuss community building and the centre’s role in supporting trans and non-binary people.
Councillor Theresa Fowler, the Mayor of Brighton & Hove, visited the Trans Pride Centre on Wednesday, where she met representatives from Trans Pride Brighton and heard about the work being carried out to support the local community.
Sharing news of the visit, Trans Pride Brighton said it was “very happy” to welcome the Mayor to the centre and described the meeting as an opportunity to discuss the importance of community connections and Brighton’s reputation as a welcoming city for trans and non-binary people.
“We were very happy to have a visit from the Mayor of Brighton and Hove, Councillor Theresa Fowler,” the organisation said.
“Thanks for the chat about community building and how special a place Brighton is for trans and non-binary people.”
The visit comes as Brighton continues to be recognised as one of the UK's most visible and active centres for LGBTQ+ life, with the city hosting a wide range of community organisations, support services and events throughout the year.
The Trans Pride Centre serves as a hub for the local trans and non-binary community, providing a space for meetings, events and support initiatives. Its work is closely linked to that of Trans Pride Brighton, which organises one of the largest trans-focused Pride events in the world.
Scene was founded in Brighton in 1993, at a time when news stories about Pride protests were considered radical.
