Brighton & Hove LGBT Switchboard joined LGBTQ+ organisations, activists and community members at a networking event held alongside the Liberal Democrats' Autumn Conference in Brighton this weekend.
Representatives from the charity attended the LGBTQ+ Networking Brunch at The Birdcage, where they spoke to conference delegates and local residents about the support services available through the organisation.
Switchboard volunteers Claudette and Jan staffed the charity's information stand throughout the event, answering questions and sharing details about the range of services offered to LGBTQ+ people in Brighton & Hove.
The brunch, organised by LGBT Foundation and LGBT+ Liberal Democrats, brought together a wide range of LGBTQ+ organisations and community groups, creating opportunities for networking, collaboration and discussions around issues affecting LGBTQ+ communities.
In a statement following the event, Switchboard said the gathering provided a valuable opportunity to connect with people attending the conference while strengthening relationships with other organisations working across the sector.
"The brunch brought together LGBTQ+ organisations, services and community members, so it was a good chance to meet people, catch up with other organisations and talk about the issues affecting our communities," the charity said.
Brighton & Hove LGBT Switchboard is one of the UK's longest-running LGBTQ+ charities, providing a range of support services including a helpline, trans support services, dementia support, wellbeing programmes and community-led projects.
The event formed part of a wider programme of LGBTQ+ fringe activity taking place alongside the Liberal Democrats' conference in Brighton, with campaigners and charities using the gathering to engage with politicians and highlight issues affecting LGBTQ+ people.
Switchboard thanked everyone who visited its stall during the event and paid tribute to the organisers for bringing together so many community organisations in one place.
The charity's conference outreach will continue next weekend when staff and volunteers travel to Liverpool for another LGBTQ+ Networking Brunch taking place alongside the Labour Party Conference.
The event will be held at The Bluecoat on Sunday 27 September and is expected to bring together LGBTQ+ groups, campaigners and delegates attending Labour's annual gathering.
