"Kevin will be deeply missed by so many". Kevin Coyle, founder of Drag Bus, has passed away
Kevin Coyle, the founder of Drag Bus, passed away unexpectedly yesterday.
Kevin launched Drag Bus in 2023, transforming a classic red Routemaster into a celebration of drag, cabaret and community. What began as a limited run of events quickly grew into a nationally recognised brand, bringing drag brunches, themed tours and Pride appearances to cities across the UK.
Known for his warmth, enthusiasm and deep respect for drag artists, Kevin was widely credited with creating a space that felt both joyful and inclusive. Performers and passengers alike spoke of Drag Bus as more than just entertainment, describing it as a safe, affirming environment that welcomed people from all walks of life.
Under his leadership, Drag Bus expanded beyond Brighton to London to Belfast, Bournemouth, Southampton, becoming a familiar and much‑loved presence at Pride events nationwide. The experience featured some of the UK’s best-known drag talent and helped platform emerging performers.
Tributes have begun pouring in from across the drag and LGBTQ+ communities, with many highlighting Kevin's kindness, generosity and unwavering belief in the power of drag to build connection and joy.
Drag Bus was a proud sponsor of Brighton & Hove Sea Serpents RFC, which said on social media: "It is with an incredibly heavy heart that we share the heartbreaking news that Kevin Coyle sadly passed away unexpectedly yesterday in Brighton.
"Kevin was a truly special soul who brought laughter, energy and kindness wherever he went. Kevin was also a huge advocate for making rugby inclusive and accessible to all, with Drag Bus being a proud sponsor of Brighton & Hove Sea Serpents RFC.
"His generosity, belief in community, and passion for helping others will leave a lasting legacy within our club and far beyond it. Kevin will be deeply missed by so many. Our thoughts and love are with his family, friends and everyone lucky enough have known him."
