A well-known Liverpool LGBTQ+ venue has been linked to a serious stabbing incident that left three men injured in the city centre during the early hours of Sunday morning.
Merseyside Police have launched an investigation after officers were called to Tithebarn Street at around 6.35am on Sunday (20 September), where they found three men suffering from injuries consistent with a stabbing.
The victims were taken to hospital for assessment. Two men remain in a stable condition, while a third sustained minor injuries.
Detectives believe the incident began outside G-Bar, one of Liverpool's longest-running LGBTQ+ venues, on nearby Eberle Street before continuing into the surrounding area.
Police cordons remain in place on Tithebarn Street, Eberle Street and Temple Lane while officers carry out forensic examinations and gather witness accounts. CCTV enquiries are also ongoing.
Detective Chief Inspector Lisa McNaughton said officers understood the concern the incident would cause. "We understand the concern that such a serious incident will cause in the community," she said.
Police said an altercation appeared to have broken out near G-Bar, leaving the three victims injured.
DCI McNaughton added: "The suspected weapon has been recovered and will be forensically examined."
Officers are now working to identify the person responsible and have increased patrols in the area as enquiries continue.
The incident has shocked many in Liverpool's LGBTQ+ community, with G-Bar regarded as one of the city's best-known gay venues and a longstanding fixture of the local nightlife scene.
Police are urging anyone who witnessed the incident, or who has CCTV, dashcam or mobile phone footage from the area, to come forward.
