Kidderminster Pride 2026 cancelled as rising costs make event “almost impossible” to stage
Kidderminster Pride 2026 has been cancelled after organisers said “significant” running costs had made it “almost impossible” to continue staging the event in its current form.
The announcement was made in a statement shared on the group's Facebook page, with organisers saying the decision had been taken with a “very heavy heart”.
Explaining the cancellation, a spokesperson said increasing costs had left the volunteer-led organisation struggling to make the event financially viable.
“We have made this decision with a very heavy heart,” the statement said.
The group added that the costs involved in delivering the annual celebration had become “almost impossible” to meet, forcing organisers to call off this year's event.
Despite the setback, organisers stressed that Pride celebrations in the Worcestershire town would not disappear entirely.
“The celebration is not disappearing completely,” the spokesperson said. “We are currently planning something on a smaller scale, so please keep your eyes peeled for updates.”
They added: “We are truly sorry to disappoint anyone who was looking forward to this year's event, but thank you from the bottom of our hearts for standing with us and supporting Kidderminster Pride over the years.”
Last year's Pride took place in August, although a date for the 2026 event had not been announced before the cancellation was confirmed.
Since its launch, Kidderminster Pride has become a popular fixture in the local calendar, bringing together LGBTQ+ people, allies, community groups and businesses for a day of celebration, visibility and inclusion.
Reflecting on previous events, organisers thanked the community for helping to build the event over recent years.
“We have had the most amazing few years celebrating Pride in Kidderminster,” the spokesperson said.
“We are so grateful to everyone who has supported us, volunteered, donated, attended, and helped create such a special atmosphere for our community.”
While the full-scale event will not go ahead this year, organisers say plans are already underway for a smaller alternative, with further details expected to be announced in the coming months.
The cancellation comes as Pride events across the UK continue to face mounting financial pressures, with organisers increasingly citing rising operational costs, security requirements and challenges securing sponsorship as barriers to staging large-scale community celebrations.
