Sir Keir Starmer delivered remarks this morning outside 10 Downing Street, reflecting on the major achievements of his time as Prime Minister. Addressing press and staff lining the street, he said leading Labour to victory in 2024 remained one of his proudest moments.

Sir Keir said the question of who could lead Labour to electoral success in 2024 had already been answered. The question now being asked by his party, he said, is a different one, and he added that he "gracefully" accepts that the answer has changed.

A process to determine a new Labour leader and Prime Minister will now begin, with a conclusion expected by September. Sir Keir will remain in post until then.

Towards the end of his speech, the Prime Minister became emotional when speaking about his family.
