Pockets of Joy: Trans Pride Hastings launches new participatory project

Artists and performers are being invited to take part in a new participatory project titled Pockets of Joy, set to take place during Trans Pride Fest at Hastings Museum on 12 July.

The project is seeking 12 small-scale works inspired by the theme Pockets of Joy, designed to surprise, delight and uplift audiences across the museum grounds. The selected pieces may take many forms, including performances, chance encounters, durational works or immersive experiences, and can be presented as one-off moments or repeated throughout the day.

Organisers say the aim is to create unexpected moments of joy and connection during the festival, encouraging visitors to engage with art in playful and imaginative ways.

Artists and creatives interested in taking part are invited to attend an informal planning social on Friday, 22 May at 6pm, held at Bunka, the rooftop bar of the Observer Building. Drinks will be provided, and attendees are encouraged to come along with ideas at any stage of development.

Those behind the project say fully formed proposals are not required. Instead, the mixer is intended as a space to share early concepts, meet other creatives and explore how ideas might be realised for the festival.

Each of the 12 selected “Pockets of Joy” will receive a £300 fee, with the project funded by National Lottery Awards for All.

People wishing to attend the planning social are asked to RSVP via OutSavvy.
