Labour councillor Milla Gauge quits Brighton & Hove Council after feeling ignored on safeguarding concerns
Councillor Milla Gauge has resigned from Brighton & Hove City Council today, saying she had repeatedly raised concerns with council leadership over many months but felt unheard and unable to get them properly addressed. The Queen's Park councillor said the decision followed "many unsuccessful attempts" to get the council to act, and that she was "resigning my post as councillor so I can continue my work through other means."
The resignation triggers the eighth by-election in the ward since Labour took control of the council in 2023, and the third in Queen's Park specifically. Brighton & Hove News, which first published Gauge's resignation letter, says it has asked the council and the Labour group to respond, and no statement had been issued at time of publication.
