A definitive ranking of every Kylie Minogue album
From soap star beginnings to full blown global icon, Kylie Minogue has never stopped surprising us. Her career has been a whirlwind of twists, turns annnnnd I'm going to say it....plenty of Spinning Around! And now she’s entering yet another huge moment, a brand new Netflix documentary drops TOMORROW (20.05.26) and then next week her Tension Tour concert film drops (27.05.26 and yep on Netflix too). One more thing too, Kylie's unofficially announced a 2027 world tour to celebrate an incredible 40 years in music! Honestly, what a time to be a Kylie fan.
Anywaaaay, all this Kylie....Fever (IYKYK) got me thinking about something we don’t talk about enough: her albums. In the UK, we claimed Kylie as a national treasure decades ago. She’s been consistently mega successful since 1988 (the year I was born, so I've literally grown up with Kylie woah omg). The era of automatic top 10 singles may have passed but her albums still debut at number one and her fanbase remains fiercely loyal, always excited and ready for the next era. Despite allll the stats you could throw around about sales and longevity, one thing often gets overlooked, Kylie really is a phenomenal album artist.
As early as Rhythm of Love (1990), she understood that strong albums were essential for a lasting career. Her bold reinvention on her 1994 self titled record was unexpected, brave and exactly what she needed. Since then, she’s taken creative risks with albums like Impossible Princess and Body Language when sticking to the formula would’ve been easier. She’s also delivered flawless pop and disco masterpieces. Fever (2001), Disco (2020), and most recently Tension II (2023). When Kylie gets it right (which is basically 98% of the time) it feels euphoric. And even when she misses, there’s always something still ahem, Golden in the mix. Again IYKYK!
So, I’ve taken on the impossible task of ranking her studio albums and making the case that Kylie is one of pop’s most underrated and versatile album artists so let’s dive in….head first!
17.Kylie (1988)

Kylie's music career began in 1987 when expectations were apparently low for soap opera stars turned singers. Yet her debut single I Should Be So Lucky (written in an hour after producers Stock Aitken Waterman forgot she was coming, became a five week UK number 1). Her debut album Kylie in 1988 sold five million copies and became the year’s biggest album. I love that the biggest album of the year I was born was Kylie. Tracks like Turn It Into Love and Je Ne Sais Pas Pourquoi showed early hints of her pop versatility. Oh and fun fact: Kylie sings the word "lucky" 57 times in I Should Be So Lucky, just in case you ever get asked that in a pub quiz, you're welcome.
16.Enjoy Yourself (1989)

15.Let's Get To It (1991)

14.Kiss Me Once (2014)

A modern pop record blending Sia penned ballads, camp electro and contemporary dance influences. Highlights include Into the Blue and If Only.
OMG and Sexercize is an underated gem!
13.Golden (2018)
Omg I loved Kylie's country era....

A Nashville inspired reinvention. Drawing from Dolly Parton and country pop, Kylie co wrote every track on Golden and led to her record breaking Glastonbury Legends slot performance.

12.Rhythm of Love (1990)

11.Tension II (2024)

10.Kylie Minogue (1994)

Her deconstruction debut marked a sophisticated reinvention. Confide in Me became a signature track....
Put Yourself in My Place showcased her strongest vocals to date. It was a critical rebrand even if sales were modest.
9.Disco (2020)

8.Tension (2023)

7.X (2007)

6.The Abbey Road Sessions (2012)

5.Aphrodite (2010)

With Stuart Price as executive producer, this became her most cohesive album in years. Euphoric anthems like All the Lovers and Get Outta My Way defined a triumphant era.
4.Light Years (2000)

A joyful return to disco pop. With Spinning Around and On A Night Like This, Kylie reclaimed her place as a dancefloor icon.
The album’s camp exuberance set the stage for her next global breakthrough and On A Night Like This is my ultimate favourite Kylie song!
It's just such a gorgeous bop, right?!
3.Body Language (2003)

2.Impossible Princess (1997)

I was only 9 at the time so didn't fully appreciate this album back then but I do now! To be honest, I think it's a masterpiece. It's definitley her most personal and experimental album, shaped by travel and introspection.
Mixing trip hop, techno and rock, it was misunderstood in 1997 but now it's been reappraised as one of her boldest works, so basically Kylie was ahead of her time!
1.Fever (2001)

It was honestly so hard choosing my number 1 Kylie album, I changed my mind so many times but I've settled with Fever. Well not settled, that's the wrong word, but Fever was just an epic album and possibly her commercial peak?!
Can’t Get You Out of My Head topped the charts in more than 40 countries which is wild and the album sold over six million copies.
I was obsessed with (and still am) with In Your Eyes and Love at First Sight.
