Will residents match-day parking scheme go ahead?

A scheme introducing residents parking in the roads in Coldean and Moulsecoomb during football match days at the American Express Community Stadium will be discussed at Transport Committee on April 30, 2013.

If this scheme is approved, resident permits and one transferable visitor permit will be available at no charge to residents upon application. Additionally, residents can buy up to 25 one day visitor permits each year at a cost of £2.60 each. In the areas, business, school and carer permits will also be introduced without charge, and disabled residents with Blue Badges are able to park without a permit.

Consultation carried out in the autumn revealed that, in Coldean, over 78% of those who responded were in favour of a match-day parking scheme, and 68% supported the proposals in Moulsecoomb.

Councillor Ian Davey, Chair of the city’s Transport Committee, said:

“Local residents have been concerned about the negative impact of match day parking on their streets, and that is why we have proposed an event day only controlled parking scheme at no cost to residents.

“In the recent consultation they were overwhelmingly in favour of implementing the plan. Should it be given the go ahead, it will operate all day when there are matches or events at the stadium. This will make life easier for those who live nearby and compliment the excellent work that the club are already doing to encourage fans to travel to the ground by sustainable means.”
