PREVIEW: Early music in Brighton @home

Lovers of early music – from the Middle Ages, Renaissance and Baroque periods across Europe will have been saddened by the inevitable news that the eagerly-awaited Brighton Early Music Festival has been cancelled for 2020. Much reviewed by Gscene, it’s a wonderful and often surprising cocktail of familiar and unheard-of pieces , enjoyed in the acoustic splendour of some of Brighton’s most stunning churches .

But all’s not lost – this year’s theme Earth has been transposed into a digital festival of on-line streaming. It will consist of a number of individually  devised broadcasts, merging musical performances with film, images, animations and documentaries.

Each programme will be premiered on YouTube at a fixed date and time and then stay available for a further week.

BREMF artistic director Deborah Roberts told Gscene : “ Although these are early days, we have been delighted with the response to our preliminary ideas from performers, partners and supporters. We  hope to invite many of the artists we had already invited for the Festival .”
