Scene has always been about community. What started as a local publication for the LGBTQ+ communities in Brighton & Hove in 1993 has grown into a platform for bold voices, independent thought and powerful storytelling. Now, we're ready for the next step.

Scene's readers are based all over the UK, Europe and the rest of the world. Among our most loyal readers are people from the devolved nations and the United States, so we want to recognise that and deliver more news relevant to your area.

We're looking for new contributors to help us reflect the real diversity of life, culture, and politics across the UK and beyond. Whether you're passionate about local politics in Fermanagh, queer theatre in Glasgow, pop culture in Leeds, or trans rights in Dublin — we want to hear from you.

We're especially keen to work with writers and reporters from:

  • The devolved nations — Scotland, Wales, and Northern Ireland
  • The North of England
  • The Republic of Ireland
  • The United States and Mainland Europe

It's probably worth mentioning that we're not looking for polished journalism. We're looking for people with something to say, a perspective to share, and a commitment to lifting up stories that often get overlooked.

You might want to cover the following in a written or video format:

  • Queer politics and policy
  • Arts and culture
  • Pride events and protest movements
  • Community organising
  • Interviews with local changemakers
  • Or anything else that matters to your community

Right now, we can't offer payment. Scene is still run entirely on passion and community support, but we do offer a platform to promote your own work and projects, access to a growing network of creatives and activists, and editorial support to help you shape your stories.

If you're interested in joining the Scene team as a contributor (or if you've got a better name for that role than “community reporter”, let's hear it!), just drop us an email at team@scenemag.co.uk with a bit about who you are and what you’d like to cover.

Let's make something brilliant, together.
