History Club tomorrow: lived experiences & images of LGBTQ+ Roma at B&H Museum & Art Gallery

Dr Lucie Fremlova, an international researcher and practitioner, will be giving a talk as part of her exhibition on LGBTQ+ Roma & Romany Gypsies at Brighton & Hove Museum & Art Gallery in Royal Pavilion Gardens on Sunday, January 26 from 2.30pm.

The exhibition, which is free to enter, showcases photographs produced by LGBTQ+ Roma visual activists and artists as part of this collaborative, participatory postdoctoral project, funded by the Economic and Social Research Council. The exhibition not only offers an insight into the lives of LGBTQ+ Roma; it also seeks to demonstrate to various audiences ways in which LGBTQ+ Roma wish to be represented.

Dr Fremlova works in the domain of ethnicity/race, sexualities and gender, particularly in relation to Roma. In her close-up, interdisciplinary research with LGBTQ+ Roma, she works at the interface between scholarship, policy and activism. Her innovative theoretical approach seeks to create a new discourse on Roma within queer theorising, as well as Critical Romani Studies.
