Free event for dog owners

Brighton & Hove City Council’s animal welfare team is running one of its popular Dog Care Days on Thursday 11 July 2013 at East Brighton Park from 12 noon to 4pm.

The council is joining forces with the RSPCA to run the event which aims to help promote responsible dog ownership.

Dog owners will be able to find out about rules and regulations affecting them and pick up free dog tags, neutering vouchers and ‘poo bags.’

They can also find out about the council’s Dog Walkers Code of Conduct which provides useful advice and information about exercising your dog in the city.

Free micro chipping will also be offered along with free leads and engraving on dog tags.

Potential dog owners can also find out about some of the strays currently in council care and how to go about re-homing.

Environment Councillor Pete West, said:

“The council’s animal welfare officers have been increasingly concerned about the large number of strays found wandering in the city and the poor condition of some owned pets.

“They are also keen to tackle the environmental problems caused by irresponsible dog owners, including dog fouling.

“We hope the event will help us raise awareness and tackle head-on some of the issues around dog ownership.”

The animal welfare team will also be running its popular annual Fun Day on Saturday, July 27 at Preston Park from 11am – 4pm.

Along with dog care advice, information and free micro chipping, activities will include a chance to meet PAT dogs and to test your pet’s skills on the dog agility course.

City Mayor Denise Cobb will attend to present an award to the Best Dog in Show.
