A replica of New York's Stonewall Inn will join London Pride's parade next weekend, built on a converted bus and recreating elements of the globally famous bar where the modern LGBTQ+ rights movement began.

The installation is part of a longstanding partnership between the venue and Brooklyn Brewery, which has produced an official Stonewall Inn beer since 2017 in support of the bar's community giving initiative. For Pride 2026, the brewery has released limited-edition packaging created with artist Rob Likes to Draw and the Queer Youth Art Collective, on sale in the UK until 31 August. The bus itself will travel the parade route as a mobile stage for DJs and performers.

I have my own connection to the original. I visited the Stonewall Inn on Christopher Street back in 2019, and it is one of those rare places where you can genuinely feel the weight of history sitting in the room with you. Stepping inside, knowing patrons fought back against a police raid there in the early hours of 28 June 1969, and that those nights of resistance helped spark a global movement, is something that really sticks with you. It remains an incredibly moving place to visit.

This year, Scene will be right there on top of the float during the parade, speaking to the venue's owners about what the Stonewall Inn still means more than half a century on.

Support independent LGBTQ+ journalism

Scene was founded in Brighton in 1993, at a time when news stories about Pride protests were considered radical.

Since then, Scene has remained proudly independent, building a platform for queer voices. Every subscription helps us to report on the stories that matter to LGBTQ+ people across the UK and beyond.

Your support funds our journalists and contributes to Pride Community Foundation’s grant-making and policy work.
