A definitive ranking of every MARINA x Marina and the Diamonds album

Fellow Diamonds! I've been wanting to sit down and rank every MARINA album for a while now and after seeing her on Friday night at Alexandra Palace, I left that show feeling inspired, emotional and honestly a little bit in awe so this felt like right now is the perfect moment to do.

Fresh off a completely sold out North American leg, Marina brought the Princess of Power Tour to Ally Pally and it wasn’t just another stop on the tour. At one point, she got visibly emotional sharing that this was the biggest venue she’s ever played in Europe. She said, “18 years ago, I signed my record deal on the steps outside Ally Pally…” and “…so this feels like a real full circle moment, like I’m closing a chapter tonight, here with all of you.” I’ll admit, I got a bit nervous when she said that, only because I was thinking pleeease don’t be retiring hun but thankfully that wasn’t the case!

I’ve been a fan of Marina since day one, and this was my FIFTH time seeing her live so at this point she's become a part of my personality. She’s now my second most seen artist, according to my Concert Archives profile. Feel free to give me a follow on there if you’d like! It's a really good app to keep track of the concerts you've been to and concerts you have planned in the future and kind of like a social network for concert lovers to connect with each other. Not a sponsor or anything by the way, I'm just a pop music nerd.

Also….thank you MARINA, just for existing to be honest. Like actually, thank you for being Ü. For every lyric that’s hit a little too close to home, every era that somehow showed up exactly when we needed it, and for making a space where Diamonds can be dramatic, highly emotional people and fully, unapologetically ourselves.

You’ve basically been the soundtrack to my life. Every high, every low, every in between moment. Basically growing up with your music means more than I can put into words. Hopefully this doesn't sound weird! Following your journey all this time and then standing in that Ally Pally crowd though just felt different. Good different though don't worry. So thank you one more time for sharing your art, your talent and your heart with us Diamonds all around the world.

WE <3 YOU!

Now….let’s dive into the ranking head first!

6.Love + Fear (2019)

I still don’t get why Love + Fear got dragged so much, Marina was really in her reflective era giving us polished pop and actual thoughts about identity and relationships at the same time. It’s lowkey one of her most relatable vibes, she was just being honest and we were all living it with her.

Handmade Heaven is just so pretty and To Be Human and Orange Trees?

Yeah, those are MY girls too. One for the feels, one for the sunshine mood. I was in Seville earlier this month and Orange Trees kept popping in my head every time I saw an orange tree!

I love Superstar too and don’t even get me started. You, Enjoy Your Life, End of the Earth, Life Is Strange, Emotional Machine, Karma, True and of course Baby….like she did NOT need to go that hard on one album. Love + Fear is such a solid body of work. And the line “Be happy with the body that you're in, being who you are don't cost a thing” in True hits me every time.

5.Ancient Dreams In A Modern Land (2021)

First of all....can we talk about the Ancient Dreams in a Modern Land artwork? It’s gorgeous, she really said main character energy only. The album itself is a bright, bold pop album with a side of feminist rage and I’m absolutely here for it. Purge the Poison and Venus Fly Trap are such standouts for me, they just drip confidence like Marina knows exactly who she is and she’s not asking for permission anymore.

The album feels empowering and unapologetic, celebrating individuality and change.

Man's World is an anthem and typical Marina delivering powerful lines about inequality and empowerment with a wink.

4.The Family Jewels (2010)

This is the one where becoming a Diamond officially began! The Family Jewels is such a bold debut, she really came in with her quirky chaos, sharp lyrics and full theatrical flair right from the start. Indie pop but make it slightly unhinged (in the best way).

Hollywood is literally one of my all time faves and I Am Not a Robot and Oh No! are just so Marina, showing off that unique voice and calling out identity, fame, and expectations. She knew exactly what she was doing from day one.

The Family Jewels still sounds fresh too, it could be released today and still sound really good, it really is a captivating and distinctive debut that instantly set her apart.

3.Princess Of Power (2025)

Princess of Power is Marina in full technicolour, an explosive rush of glimmering pop, attitude and unapologetic self mythology, channelling flashes of Electra Heart. Tracks like Cuntissimo (I still can't get over Cuntissimo), Princess of Power and Final Boss hit with fierce confidence.

The official video for I <3 YOU is one of my favourite Marina videos ever (and the song too).

.

The whole album feels electric, theatrical, and deliciously self aware. It’s a dazzling, high drama pop statement that proves Marina still reigns in her own universe.

2.Electra Heart (2012)

Electra Heart has to be one of my favourite pop albums ever. I love a concept driven pop masterpiece.

Tracks like Primadonna, Teen Idle, Homewrecker, Lies and Bubblegum Bitch are iconic, saying that though, the whole album is.

I need to mention the How To Be A Heartbreaker official video....this video contributed to my gay awakening, anyone else?!

Radioactive is super slept on too!

1.Froot (2015)

Froot is easily my number one Marina album! Entirely self written and I remember Marina rolling out one track per month before its release, it'll remain one of the most fun and unconventional album campaigns. The record itself feels like a true masterpiece, 12 beautifully crafted, impeccably produced songs delivered with so much emotion.

For me, it’s her strongest work, though I understand why fans rank her discography differently because every album is consistently strong. Still, Froot for me stands as a timeless classic with lyrics that feel just as sharp today as they did over 10 years ago (omg I'm old) and a sound that captures a real high point in modern pop.

I love how Marina basically turns fruit into a whole personality on Froot serving growth, timing and knowing your worth all at once. She’s out here talking about being ripe and patient like love is a perfectly timed snack and she’s not wrong. It’s fun and too relatable, like yesssss I am plump and ripe and pinker than shepherd's delight thank you! Fun fact: Marina premiered this song on her 29th birthday by the way oh oh and Froot is a deliberate misspelling of fruit because Marina didn't want the name of the album to hold any previous connotation.

On Forget Marina turns frustration into empowerment, rather than dwelling on being misunderstood she shrugs it off and leans into growth. It's catchy and bright on the surface but underneath it's about reclaiming identity and refusing to be defined by others' perceptions. It's a bop!

Oh Blue is that song, you’re dancing a bit but also side eyeing your own feelings. It’s all bright and synthy while casually unpacking emotional avoidance and that weird post breakup vibe where you’re finally free but also a tiny bit sad. We’ve all been there. On Immortal she really said let me spiral, but make it gorgeous. It’s deep, a little existential and very much Marina wondering if she’s gonna leave a legacy or just vanish into the void (again, relatable). It’s haunting but in a pretty, dramatic way, like staring out a window thinking about your life for a bit too long. Stunning though and one of my faves.

Marina's Princess Of Power Tour continues tonight in Manchester and you can get tickets HERE. All of Marina's albums are on all streaming platforms.
