Scarborough Pride, one of North Yorkshire’s most vibrant celebrations of LGBTQ+ identity and inclusion, is facing an uncertain future as organisers grapple with mounting financial pressures and dwindling support.

The annual event, which has grown in popularity since its inception, is now at risk of cancellation unless urgent funding and volunteer support can be secured. Organisers have warned that without a significant injection of resources, the festival may not go ahead next year, leaving a void in the region’s cultural calendar and LGBTQ+ community.

Local businesses and sponsors, once key pillars of support, have reportedly scaled back their contributions, citing economic challenges and shifting priorities. This mirrors a broader national trend, with Pride events across the UK struggling to stay afloat due to reduced sponsorship and rising operational costs.

Pride is more than a party - it’s a lifeline for many in our community.

Scarborough Pride has long been celebrated for its inclusive atmosphere, community spirit, and positive impact on local tourism. However, organisers say the cost of staging the event - including security, infrastructure, and entertainment - has become increasingly difficult to manage without consistent financial backing.

In a statement, the organising committee urged residents, allies, and local enterprises to rally behind the event. “Pride is more than a party - it’s a lifeline for many in our community. We need Scarborough to stand with us now more than ever,” the statement read.

Volunteers are also being sought to help with planning, logistics, and outreach. Organisers emphasised that even small contributions - whether time, money, or resources - could make a meaningful difference.
