Russell T Davies finds love again with Australian model Oliver Cole
Russell T Davies, the award-winning writer and showrunner behind Doctor Who and It’s a Sin, has introduced fans to a new chapter in his personal life: a relationship with 27-year-old Australian model and waiter Oliver Cole.
The pair made their public debut on Christmas Day when Davies shared a warm selfie from his kitchen, captioned simply: “Merry Christmas! From me & Oliver ♥️”. The image, featuring champagne bottles and baking paraphernalia, offered a glimpse of a cosy festive celebration and quickly drew affectionate responses from fans and colleagues alike.
Sources suggest the relationship began earlier in 2025. Observant fans first noticed Davies engaging with Cole’s Instagram posts in June, and by autumn, the young Australian was spotted visiting the Doctor Who set. For his 27th birthday, Davies reportedly treated Cole to a behind-the-scenes tour of the TARDIS - a gesture that delighted fans and hinted at a growing bond.
Friends close to the couple describe the connection as “genuinely joyful”. One insider commented: “Oliver has brought a great deal of happiness into Russell’s life. They’re on the same wavelength, and despite the age gap, it feels like a relationship built to last.”
This marks Davies’s first public romance since the death of his husband, Andrew Smith, in 2018. Smith, a customs officer, passed away after a long battle with a brain tumour. Davies took two and a half years away from work to care for him, later calling that period “the greatest work I’ll ever do on this Earth”.
The couple had been together since 1999 and entered a civil partnership in 2012. Smith’s passing was a profound loss for Davies, who spoke candidly about grief and resilience in interviews following his return to television.
