Brighton & Hove LGBT Switchboard, which is currently celebrating its 50th anniversary, has welcomed Rob Sainsbury as its new CEO.
Writing on social media, Rob said: “Taking on the role of Chief Executive Officer at Brighton & Hove LGBT Switchboard is both a privilege and a profound responsibility. As I step into this position, I am deeply aware of the legacy of this organisation, which has been a vital lifeline for LGBTQ+ people for over 50 years. From its roots as a volunteer-led helpline in the 1970s to the comprehensive range of services it offers today, Switchboard’s journey reflects the broader struggle for equality, acceptance, and understanding that defines the LGBTQ+ movement.
“With Pride Month just around the corner, it feels particularly meaningful to join this incredible organisation as it marks a significant milestone in its history. Pride is a powerful reminder of the progress we have made as communities, the resilience and courage of those who came before us, and the ongoing challenges we still face. It is a moment to renew our collective commitment to creating a world where every LGBTQ+ person can live their lives with dignity, respect, and safety.

“At Switchboard, this mission is at the heart of everything we do. Whether through our pioneering social prescribing service for TNBI individuals, critical support for those facing domestic abuse, our bereavement and dementia service, or the essential connection provided by our helpline, our services are a lifeline for many. As CEO, I am dedicated to ensuring this support continues to thrive, adapt, and respond to the needs of our communities.
“After three decades working in the public sector across Wales, England, and Jersey, this role represents a deeply personal next step for me, one where I can blend my experience in leadership with my passion for advocacy and community support.
“I am looking forward to collaborating with the talented team at Switchboard, our incredible volunteers, partner organisations, our dedicated Chairs, and the committed Board of Trustees as we work together to build a brighter, more inclusive future for all. Here’s to the next chapter.”
