Last month, the town of Bingley, West Yorkshire came alive with colour, music, and celebration as it hosted its first-ever Pride event, marking a historic moment for the local LGBTQ+ community and allies.
Held at the Bingley Arts Centre, the day began with a grand opening ceremony featuring acclaimed author and screenwriter Juno Dawson, who delivered a heartfelt speech on visibility, inclusion, and the power of community. The ceremony was followed by a vibrant parade through Bingley town centre, with attendees waving flags, carrying placards, and cheering in support of equality and love.
The event was a true community affair, with local performers, drag artists, and musicians taking to the stage throughout the day. Highlights included performances by Doll’s Haus, a local drag collective, and a special appearance by Charra Tea, a star from RuPaul’s Drag Race UK, who began her career in West Yorkshire.
Writing on Instagram, Juno Dawson said: "I was truly very moved at the first ever Bingley Pride.
When I left in 1999, a Pride parade organised by local drag queens, activists and allies was unthinkable. But I think young LGBTQ people shouldn’t have to flee their hometowns for the bright lights of the city. I so wish something like this had been there for me. To meet Dolls Nest and Doll's Haus and see a drag family thriving in Yorkshire was a glimmer of hope.
"More little Prides please. We need them more than ever. Pride is love, resistance and hope."
With fundraising efforts, community support, and a clear message of love and acceptance, Bingley Pride 2025 has set a powerful precedent for future celebrations in the town.
