Members of Goal Diggers Football Club, a non-ability womxn and non-binary football club in London, walked from their training pitches at Haggerston to Wembley on 5 May to deliver a letter to the FA urging them to rethink their current transgender, non-binary and gender non-conforming grassroots football policy.
The FA announced on 1 May that trans women will be banned from playing women’s football in England from next season, despite announcing in April that trans women could continue to play on conditions they meet “stricter eligibility criteria”.
We only went and fucking walked to Wembley ‼️
And 100+ people from the grassroots football community joined us along the way to tell the FA trans women belong in football ️⚧️

The FA said the move, which will apply to all levels of the game and will be implemented from 1 June, follows the Supreme Court anti-trans ruling that a “woman” is defined by biological sex.
GDFC said before the walk: “In 1921 the FA banned women from playing football on FA affiliated pitches, over 100 years later they are still trying to ban women from playing, this time taking aim at our transgender team mates.
“We are walking to raise money for our trans and gender non-conforming inclusive team to keep football financially accessible to people who have historically been, and continue to be excluded from the game by the FA and wider society. We will split sponsorship money 50/50 with Not A Phase Org, a trans-led, nationwide charity committed to uplifting and improving the lives of trans+ adults, through awareness campaigning, social projects and funding trans+ lead initiatives.”
