One of north London’s only LGBTQ+ venues - and the UK’s only trans-run venue - is celebrating four years in business at a time when trans rights in Britain are under increasing threat.
Zodiac, located on Hampstead Road in Camden and run by trans businesswomen Jade Phoenix and Dee Chanelle, will mark the milestone with a vibrant Disco Diva-themed birthday bash on Saturday, 8 November. The night promises drag performances, DJs, dancing, and fundraising for the Trans Legal Clinic – the UK’s only trans-led legal service offering free and accessible support to the trans community.

Behind the glitter and glamour lies a powerful message of resilience, activism, and joy, standing defiantly against erasure in the wake of a controversial Supreme Court ruling earlier this year. The April decision redefined “biological sex” in the Equality Act and could exclude trans women from single-sex services and spaces. Meanwhile, Education Secretary Bridget Philipson is reviewing new guidance from the Equality and Human Rights Commission, adding to the uncertainty surrounding trans rights.

The anniversary comes at a critical time for LGBTQ+ spaces in London. Figures from the Greater London Authority reveal that more than half of the capital’s LGBTQ+ venues have closed since 2006, dropping from 125 to just 50 by 2022. Rising rents and the cost-of-living crisis have been cited as key factors behind the decline.
Despite these challenges, Zodiac’s founders remain optimistic. Dee Chanelle, a shareholder, said: “We are truly blessed to see Zodiac mark four years in business. This is thanks to the hard work of our founders and team, past and present. We’re grateful for the support from London’s LGBTQ+ community and allies during a time when many venues have closed or are struggling.”

She added: “A lot of people say London is losing its LGBTQ+ identity. We fight every day to provide a space where people can be themselves and feel safe. Seeing growing support from outside the community is encouraging.”
Jade Phoenix echoed this sentiment: “This is an extraordinary achievement. We’re proud to have reached four years, especially during these hard times. Zodiac can only go from strength to strength. Bring on 2026 and beyond.”
The celebration kicks off at 7pm, with doors closing at 2am. Entry is £10 before 10pm and £15 thereafter, with welcome bubbles for early bird ticket holders. Tickets and details are available HERE.
Headlining the stage will be RuPaul’s Drag Race UK star Scarlett Harlett, alongside performances from TRANSISTERS members Dee Chanelle and Farrah Mills, plus other special guests.
A raffle with prizes will raise funds for the Trans Legal Clinic, and a birthday cake moment will add to the festivities. Sponsors include LGBTQ+ brand Madame F, Noble and Stace Chocolatiers, and YepKitchen.
