LGBTQ+ rights advocate Matt Daniels appointed MBE in New Year Honours list

Matt Daniels, a prominent advocate for LGBTQ+ rights in Birmingham, has been appointed an MBE in the New Year Honours list. The accolade recognises his exceptional voluntary service spanning more than three decades.

Matt, 50, began volunteering in his early twenties and has since played a pivotal role in supporting and empowering LGBTQ+ individuals across the West Midlands. He is widely celebrated for his work with Birmingham LGBT and for founding The Alliance Network, a professional network for LGBTQ+ people in the region.

Currently serving as Head of Children, Young People and Families at Birmingham Voluntary Service Council (BVSC), Matt has combined his professional expertise with a passion for equality, mentoring and advocacy. His efforts have strengthened community engagement and created safe spaces for LGBTQ+ voices to be heard.

Speaking after the announcement, Daniels described the honour as “a huge privilege” and reaffirmed his commitment to championing inclusivity: “This recognition is not just for me, but for everyone working tirelessly to make our communities more welcoming and supportive.”
