Music has been embedded in my life ever since I was in the womb, my Mum and Dad basically raised me on music, especially POP music! I grew up listening to Madonna, Mariah Carey, Kylie Minogue, Spice Girls, Britney Spears and even AQUA and I’ve always been obsessed with pop culture and Eurovison! I love sharing my favourite songs and album every month with the world from Scene HQ!
Omg it's been just over two decades after 2003's Freaky Friday introduced us to the iconic fictional rock band Pink Slip and the band's anthem Take Me Away is finally available to stream on all music platforms right now!
In celebration of highly anticipated freakquel Freakier Friday starring Jamie Lee Curtis and Lindsay Lohan-Christina Vidal has recorded fresh vocals for a 2025 Take Me Away revival-my millennial heart can't take the excitement! Disney nostalgia just hit a power chord.
No spoilers here-don't worry I would never-but LiLo let slip that Anna, Maddie and Peg WILL REUNITE IN THE NEW FILM!
Catch Freakier Friday when it hits cinemas next Friday, 8th August and rewatch the original on Disney+.🍿
Last month, I got to chat with Bulgarian pop star Mitko Petrov (Митко Петров) aka Mateo for his first-ever international exclusive interview for Scene, what a moment for us both! We mainly talked about his debut English-language single Boys Toys (total banger alert!), and how it marks a bold new chapter for him as an artist.
For years Mateo only wrote and performed in Bulgarian, a language he holds close to his heart. But after dropping MOI (the original and Bulgarian version of Boys Toys), he was flooded with messages from fans around the world, many who didn’t understand Bulgarian at all. They felt the energy, the visuals and the message. “This needs to exist in English!” they said. And now it does.
Mateo’s story is proof that music isn't just entertainment-it’s identity, resistance, and connection. Boys Toys slaps in both languages, and it’s just the beginning. Check out the interview HERE.
Sigrid returns with her latest single Jellyfish and marks a breezy shift in sound, tapping into early 2000s indie vibes and the nostalgic tunes that shaped her youth.
I wanted it to feel easy-like a Scandinavian summer.
Brought to life with longtime creative partner Askjell Solstrand who also helped craft her breakout hit Dynamite-Jellyfish surfaced during a creative refresh in 2024, revealing a freer, more playful chapter in her musical journey. Flirting can feel so chaotic and stupid, but that’s the best part of it.
Sigrid said “I love using my voice as a vessel to pour my heart out,” and “on this song, I wanted it to sound carefree, joyful and playful-maybe a bit nonchalant.”
Iranian-born, Dutch-raised artist Sevdaliza unleashes Messiah-a fearless fusion of Latin pop and reggaeton that's equally spiritual awakening and radical defiance at the same time.
Hovering between gospel roots and rebellious energy, the track delivers a sonic sermon that resurrects forgotten truths and celebrates what society has long cast aside.
Messiah is a hymn for every woman, queer soul, and beautiful misfit who was told to hush their hunger, hide their skin or doubt their own divinity. I turn that shame into gospel: the body becomes a temple, pleasure becomes prophecy, and love, unbound by rule or ritual, rises as the only true religion.
Both haunting and holy, Messiah feels like a secret whispered from the shadows, its lyrics unfolding like spells.
I adore the official music video, it's a visual spectacle directed by Ukrainian filmmaker Tanu Muiño-known for blending cinematic storytelling with bold, fashion-forward imagery. Tanu's direction brings Messiah's message to life with a powerful interplay of sacred and sensual, transforming the screen into both altar and a battleground! Epic tbh.
After three years of musical silence as a collective, the global K-pop giants are back with a vengeance. BLACKPINK (and JUMP) in your area!
JUMP is a full-throttle sonic explosion, blending the girls trademark charisma with fierce industrial synths and pounding bass lines, the track kicks off a daring new chapter in their sound.
JUMP hasn’t just made noise, it’s made history.
Just 48 hours post-release, JUMP catapulted to number 1 on Spotify’s Daily Top Songs Global chart, racking up over 13.1 million streams worldwide.
With this milestone, BLACKPINK become the first and only K-pop group to hit the top spot three times, joining their 2022 chart-toppers Pink Venom and Shut Down in the record books. Global domination, tick!
Destiny Frasqueri, better known as Princess Nokia makes a bold return with Drop Dead Gorgeous, the first tantalizing taste of her forthcoming album GIRLS.
The track ushers in a new sonic chapter, layering Nokia’s signature deadpan delivery over a hypnotic blend of throbbing bass and distorted synths.
Co-produced with Joey Wunsch and AI Von Strauss, it channels the experimental energy of her reissued 2018 mixtape Metallic Butterfly (originally released in 2014), nodding to her electronic roots while pushing into even richer, darker terrain.
Drop Dead Gorgeous is a salacious summer anthem that’s all about de-centering men and causing trouble with your girls. It creates a fantasy landscape where girls are lawless, summer is forever and Halloween is around the corner.
Swedish-Venezuelan singer, dancer and actor Omar Rudberg embraces themes of self-identity and the freedom to exist beyond labels on I'm not a Boy.
The track benefits from Elias Kapari’s signature production, previously featured in songs for Miriam Bryant and Thomas Stenström, while Sophia Somajo’s writing, known for hits with Robyn and Zara Larsson, adds a poetic depth. Together, they create a track that perfectly captures Omar’s artistry.
I’m Not A Boy is a song that makes me feel completely free-free to unapologetically be myself. The song is filled with metaphors that reflect the feeling of being different, and that’s what makes us unique and special. It’s dedicated to those of us who refuse to follow others’ expectations or limiting boxes. Be yourself, be bold, and be epic.
At this point, Omar should be lighting up every ones to watch list. If his name doesn’t ring a bell yet….where have you been?
With a solid catalogue of tracks already out in the world and his second headline tour blazing across mainland Europe and the UK, now’s the time to jump on board. Trust me, this is an artist you want to catch before he goes stratospheric.
I'm so excited for mgk aka Machine Gun Kelly aka Colson Baker's pop era! Once again proving that he can be successful in any genre with his newest single vampire diaries which delivers a dose of catchy lyrics, punchy guitars and drums and irresistibly poppy energy.
The track is produced by long time collaborator and friend Travis Barker and is accompanied by a music video directed by Sam Cahill. The GRAMMY nominated recording artist features more of his iconic dance moves choreographed by Sean Bankhead.
mgk shot the official music video at New York City’s American Museum Of Natural History, iconic if you ask me! I'm obsessed with the dance break in the museum’s rotunda and mgk said “We only had two days to come up with and learn that dance break, and we shot, edited, and colored the entire video in 24 hrs so we could post today.” WOAH.
Dove Cameron is the missing piece the music world didn’t know it was craving, serving raw talent, hypnotic vocals, cinematic visuals and an unapologetic blend of beauty and edge. Her dark ’60s-inspired aesthetic is pure artistry, and she’s ready for her Espresso moment.
Romeo, the third single from Dove Cameron’s upcoming (still untitled) debut studio album is an absolute triumph. It's a dizzying, moody masterstroke and I think Allie X, Madonna, and Lady Gaga would be proud.
Cameron describes the track as “a love that feels mythic-fated, all-consuming, and a little dangerous and disarming.” With visuals designed to be bizarre and otherworldly, Romeo feels intentionally adrift in space and time.
At its core, it's a love song cloaked in shadowy, undulating production-her signature sound in this thrilling new experimental era. She shapeshifts through the track, weaving a dramatic operatic tone into cheeky, near-rap verses. It’s femme fatale energy with jaw-dropping versatility and I’m hooked.
Collaborative Remixes, Vol.1
If KAZAKY isn’t already on your radar, prepare for a total paradigm shift-no exaggeration. This high-heeled Ukrainian boy band is a masterclass in fierce choreography, avant-garde fashion, and unapologetic self-expression. Honestly, I’d give anything to experience that first discovery all over again.
I first discovered Artur Gaspar, Oleg Zhezhel, Kyryll Fedorenko, Francesco Borgato thanks to none other than Madonna-back in 2012, when the electrifying and criminally slept on Girl Gone Wild music video dropped. Kazaky, serving choreography alongside the Queen of Pop herself, left an unforgettable mark. And can we take a moment to appreciate that Madonna was 54 and still outdancing performers half her age?!
Art said “By the end of the day on set, our feet were bleeding and we had blisters… But if Madonna can repeat the dancing for the 50th time, why can’t we?”
Anyway Kazaky's Milk-Choc went viral on TikTok earlier this year so Kazaky, after a 5 year hiatus, have released their first new release since 2020 (even if it is a remix album), bringing together a collection of fast-paced, high-energy, soaring BPM anthems all served up with that signature sultry accent that us fans can't get enough of.
The high-heeled synth pop stars present a series of electrifying remixes of Milk-Choc, Touch Me, In the Middle and more, courtesy of some of the hottest dance producers around. Each remix really does bring a fresh vibe to each track.
The Eastern European boys said "This has truly been an incredible creative journey. Endless gratitude to all the amazing collaborators who joined us on this ride-your talent is pure brilliance. Each remix brings a new light to the originals-we just can’t stop listening. With every play, we fall deeper in love."
The remix album Kazaky Collaborative Remixes, Vol. 1 title comes with a little wink, could Vol. 2 be waiting in the wings? I hope so! And honestly while this fresh batch of remixes is pure gold, a whole new era of original tracks (and music videos) would be the ultimate cherry on top. Kazaky, we’re ready when you are.
Fucking Beautiful marked Kazaky’s final single back in 2020 and, well, the title says it all. Raw, radiant, and unapologetically bold, it was the kind of track that didn’t just hit the ears, it lingered.
Fucking Beautiful was shot during the height of the pandemic, which meant for the first time the boys filmed their parts separately. Yep they were social distancing just like the rest of us back then. I kinda miss that two metre social distancing rule....especially on a packed bus.
I’m obsessed with all the tracks on this remix album, but a few personal faves absolutely stand out: Milk-Choc (Harland Kasten Remix) and Milk-Choc (Yumeka Vogue Remix) both serve major energy.
In the Middle gets triple the love with fire remixes by Alonso Montero, Gui Serrano, and Xandre Bianco. Touch Me comes through with sizzling versions by M4Ita & Mateus Medeiros and Malharo, while Love shines in both Yumeka and Xandre’s takes.
Let’s not forget Pulse (Nomax Remix), Horizon (LogicBoy Remix), and What You Gonna Do (Harland Kasten Remix)-each one is an anthem. Oh I don't think I can choose faves because I love them all.
Kazaky Collaborative Remixes, Vol. 1 is on all streaming platforms now and so are all the other tracks in this column! In fact check out the playlist below.👇🏻
