Last night for Trans Awareness Week, Pride in Halton CIC, which organises Halton Pride, brought together the trans community and allies to "take our voices, our pride, and our fight for equality" across the Silver Jubilee Bridge - from Widnes to Runcorn.
Ahead of the event, the group said on Facebook: "This is not just a walk - it’s a stand for justice, visibility and human rights. Too often, trans people face discrimination, violence, and erasure. Together, we will show that our community is powerful, united, and unafraid."
The group walked to "demand equality, respect, and safety for all trans people; to honour those lost to transphobia and violence; to celebrate the strength, beauty, and resilience of our community; to make it clear: Trans Rights Are Human Rights."
Trans Awareness Week, observed each November, is a time dedicated to raising visibility and understanding of transgender and gender-diverse people. It encourages conversations about the challenges faced by trans individuals, including discrimination, barriers to healthcare, and social stigma, while celebrating their resilience and contributions to society.
The week also serves as an opportunity for allies to learn, reflect, and take meaningful action to support equality and inclusion. It culminates in the Trans Day of Remembrance, honouring those whose lives have been lost to anti-trans violence.
