Uma Thurman and Phoebe Dynevor are set to star as secret lesbian lovers in new film for 2025, which also stars Sir Anthony Hopkins.
The Housekeeper, which charts the forbidden romance between a Polish housekeeper (Thurman) and famous novelist, Daphne Du Maurier (Dynevor), is set in the mystic, brooding and wild landscape of Cornwall.
The story is inspired by British novelist Rose Tremain’s short story in which a young woman is horrified to discover, after a brief sexual encounter with Daphne du Maurier, that she is the model for Mrs. Danvers in the writer’s classic work Rebecca.
Director Richard Eyre said in a statement: “For one, their affair is an all-consuming love, for the other an intoxicating realisation of her secret longings.
“Tremain’s story grapples with love, fear, fiction, desire, ambition, death and legacy — perhaps epic.
“Whilst providing us with the delicacy of most complex, nuanced characters and unexpected shifts in audience sympathy.”
