Donald Trump delivered a bizarre speech on Tuesday, March 4, calling out the previous Joe Biden administration for spending $8million on making “mice transgender” when he actually meant “transgenic mice”.

Highlighting expenses identified by the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE), Trump said: “[We found] $8 million for making mice transgender,” he remarked, pausing as laughter emerged from the Republican side of the hall. He then added, “This is real…”

Trump said he’s rushed to ban diversity and inclusion programmes in the federal government and dismiss workers charged with advancing such efforts. “Our country will be ‘woke’ no longer,” he said.

Social media users were quick to point out Trump’s slip-up.

One X user said:  “I’m not sure what’s more ridiculous- President Trump thinking it’s ‘transgender mice’ (instead of transgenic). Or JD Vance and Mike Johnson laughing maniacally at it (because they have zero idea either),” pointed out a user.

“I actually only pay my taxes to make mice transgender,” quipped a user.

Following his inauguration, Trump has staged an unprecedented attack on trans communities in the United States.

One of his first executive orders was that federal agencies should define sex as strictly either male or female, thus eliminating recognition of trans and nonbinary identities at federal level, barring individuals from updating gender markers on passports and other federal documents that currently allow for “X” gender markers.

Trump has also attempted to ban trans women and girls from female sports and remove trans people from the US military.
