To mark International Day Against Homophobia, Biphobia & Transphobia (IDAHOBIT) this year, Brighton & Hove City Council’s LGBT Workers Forum have invited activist, manicurist and all round fabulous person Charlie Craggs to come to Sussex and spend a day being herself, meeting folk and sharing not only her exquisite manicure skills with anyone who might like a free manicure, but also the wisdom gathered from being herself.
Charlie is making a name for herself with her radical and chic form of activism through Nail Transphobia, which tackles transphobia through nail art.

Charlie Craggs travels around the UK with her pop up nail salon to museums, galleries and festivals offering the public free manicures, giving people the chance to sit down and have a chat with a trans person, because most people often have a lot of misconceptions about them from poor and exploitative media representation.
Charlie will be holding a session open to the general public in the main auditorium of Jubilee Library on the afternoon of May 18.

IDAHOBIT commemorates the day in 1990 the World Health Organisation removed homosexuality from its list of mental diseases and this year will give everyone in the city the opportunity to stand in solidarity with our brothers and sisters being persecuted in Chechnya.
In 86 countries globally, homosexual acts remain illegal while in many countries lesbians, gay men, bisexuals and those who identify as trans are often murdered simply for their sexuality or gender identity and alarmingly recent media reports indicate concentration camps for gay men have been opened in Chechnya.
The main event marking IDAHOBIT 2017 will take place in New Steine Gardens by the side of the Brighton AIDS Memorial on Wednesday, May 17 at 6pm. It will be attended by the Mayor Of Brighton & Hove.
