SOLO, a "French-Canadian love letter to drag", to screen at Brighton's Dukes at Komedia

Sophie Dupuis’ electrifying drama, SOLO, which follows a young and emerging drag queen who becomes entangled in a passionate but complicated romance, will be screened at Brighton's Dukes at Komedia on 21 September.

The film, which won Best Canadian Film at the Toronto International Film Festival, tells the story of Simon (Simon (Théodore Pellerin: Lurker, Beau is Afraid), a rising star in Montreal’s drag scene. When he meets Olivier (Félix MaritaudSauvage, 120 Beats Per Minute), a new performer at the bar where he works, it's love at first sight. But what begins as an electrifying romance quickly spirals into a competitive and destructive dynamic.

At the same time, Simon’s mother, Claire - a renowned opera singer - returns home after a 15-year absence to restart her career. Simon, who barely knows her but deeply idealises her, is determined to build a relationship. Caught between the collapse of two impossible loves, Simon is forced to confront the truth: he deserves more.

Rising star Théodore Pellerin shines in SOLO, a stirring exploration of love, identity, and ambition set against the vibrant backdrop of the drag scene. With a touch of sparkle and plenty of heart, the film portrays a young man’s fight to find where he truly belongs.

SOLO - released in UK & Irish cinemas on 19 September 2025 - will been screened at Brighton's Dukes at Komedia on 21 September 2025. The Brighton screening will include a Q&A with the director.
