Drag queen and environmentalist Pattie Gonia raises over $1 million for charity after hiking 100 miles to San Francisco in full drag

Renowned environmental activist and drag performer Pattie Gonia has raised over $1 million for charity after completing a gruelling 100-mile hike to San Francisco - all while in full drag.

The journey, which combined high camp with high endurance, began earlier this month as part of Pattie’s ongoing mission to spotlight environmental justice and support LGBTQ+ youth. Known for blending fabulous artistry with earnest activism, Pattie drew thousands of online supporters who donated throughout the multi-day trek.

Wearing elaborate drag looks that defied both terrain and common sense, Pattie traversed rugged trails, coastal paths, and urban stretches, stopping frequently to speak with local communities about climate action and queer visibility in outdoor spaces. Videos shared on social media showed everything from sequinned gowns whipping in the wind to hikers cheering as Pattie tottered past in heeled boots.

The funds raised will be distributed to eight environmental and LGBTQ+ organisations, with details expected to be announced in the coming days. Pattie described the challenge as “one of the hardest things I’ve ever done - but also one of the most beautiful,” adding that the support from both hikers and drag fans “kept my wig on and my spirits high.”

Advocates have praised the campaign as a creative and joyful example of how activism can be both impactful and inclusive. As one supporter commented online, “Leave it to Pattie Gonia to prove you can save the planet and serve looks at the same time.”

Pattie’s hike concluded at San Francisco’s waterfront, where a crowd gathered to welcome her across the finish line - heels, glitter, and all.
