‘Queens of the Dead’ trailer unleashed: Tina Romero’s zombie drag spectacle slays with queer power

Zombie royalty returns with a vengeance as Tina Romero, daughter of horror legend George A. Romero, unveils the first trailer for her feature debut Queens of the Dead - a gloriously queer, blood-soaked horror comedy that’s already making waves across the LGBTQ+ film community.

Set in the heart of Brooklyn, the film follows a group of drag queens, club kids, and frenemies who must band together when a zombie apocalypse erupts during a warehouse party. With sequins flying and limbs falling, the trailer teases a riotous blend of camp, carnage, and community resilience. Think RuPaul’s Drag Race meets Night of the Living Dead - but with more glitter and less shame.

Romero co-wrote the film with comedian Erin Judge, crafting a narrative that’s as much about survival as it is about chosen family. The cast is a who’s-who of queer talent, including Katy O’Brian (Love Lies Bleeding), Jaquel Spivey (Mean Girls), Tomas Matos (Fire Island), Nina West (RuPaul’s Drag Race), Dominique Jackson (Pose), Cheyenne Jackson (American Horror Story) and comedy icon Margaret Cho.

After winning the Audience Award for Best Narrative Feature at the 2025 Tribeca Film FestivalQueens of the Dead is set to hit cinemas on 24 October - just in time for Halloween. The film has been praised for its unapologetically queer lens, its celebration of drag culture, and its subversive take on the zombie genre.
