Pride Community Foundation (PCF) has announced the appointment of Luciana Cousin as the first Chair of its Board of Directors, marking a significant milestone in the foundation’s growth.

Luciana brings deep, hands-on experience in LGBTQ+ advocacy and community safety. She is co-founder of bobu (Back Off. Back Up.) together with her son Nick, focusing on building emotional, social and physical safety for queer people.

Through bobu, Luciana has helped establish a network of safe, welcoming venues across the UK, backed by bobuEssentials, a queer-focused inclusivity training course for staff. She also developed the bobuSHIFT framework (Feel It. Read It. Own It.), which teaches people to take control of their response in unsafe situations rather than simply react. Her leadership is rooted in her personal commitment to creating spaces where people can feel seen, heard and unafraid.

In her new role as Chair, Luciana will guide PCF’s strategic direction, support its mission to strengthen UK LGBTQ+ communities and help build partnerships that expand the Foundation’s impact.

“I am honoured to take on this role,” said Luciana. “PCF has real potential to be a force for change – to support grassroots groups, create safer places and amplify LGBTQ+ voices. I look forward to working along with my colleagues on the board and in the community to make that happen.”

Leslie Clarke, CEO of PCF, added: “We are thrilled to welcome Luciana. Her drive, her insight and her record of building safer spaces make her the right person to help shape our next steps. She brings a clear focus on people and community, which sits at the heart of our work.”

From PCF’s perspective, the appointment brings both vision and lived experience. As a founder of key grassroots initiatives, Luciana’s insight into community needs will help the Foundation deliver meaningful, ground-up impact.
