Nearly a year since submitting plans the Ledward Centre, Brighton & Hove’s LGBTQ+ Centre, has received building control assent.

A spokesperson for the Ledward Centre said: “We’re delighted to finally be able to move on with some of our plans to upgrade Ledward Centre, which will allow us to host more events, meetings, meet ups, and to also upgrade the café with a wider choice of menu items and opening times.

“This is great news for us, though we will need to close Ledward Centre for up to four months.

“The popular Queer Makers’ Market on November 30 will be the last of our events before we close from December 1, and we’ll be making sure that we share progress as we move forward to reopening in spring next year.”

Support independent LGBTQ+ journalism

Scene was founded in Brighton in 1993, at a time when news stories about Pride protests were considered radical.

Since then, Scene has remained proudly independent, building a platform for queer voices. Every subscription helps us to report on the stories that matter to LGBTQ+ people across the UK and beyond.

Your support funds our journalists and contributes to Pride Community Foundation’s grant-making and policy work.
