forum+, which works to promote equality for LGBTQ+ people in Camden and Islington, has announced plans to reopen the iconic Black Cap in Camden, London are underway. The group, which met with the owners and the project team working to reopen the pub, has said discussions were “hugely exciting” and the vision for the reopened venue is one that will “retain and enhance the beloved Black Cap”.

Dubbed ‘the Palladium of Drag’, the Black Cap, which closed almost nine years ago, was an LGBTQ+ community and cabaret space for more than 60 years.

forum+ (and previously as Camden LGBT Forum) has secured two ACV designations for the venue and has thanked everyone who contributed evidence outlining how Black Cap continues to be very loved and missed by the local Camden community.

forum+ said on Facebook: “The Black Cap was closed almost nine years ago and there is huge thanks due to many individuals and organisations for their generous donation of time and efforts towards reopening the iconic venue.

“So many have made significant contributions and it is right to highlight Camden Council, the great Black Captivist Campaigners, the GLA, local and London LGBTQ+ press, to everyone who supported the successful forum+ ACV applications and to the very many people who have quietly supported the campaign and worked behind the scenes.

“forum+ is looking forward to continued engagement with the project team working to reopen the Black Cap, we wish them all the very best in their endeavours and we’re excited to share news and updates with Camden’s LGBTQ+ community.”
