Olly Alexander has announced he is joining Team Beacon, the Sussex Beacon’s challenge event group, adding he will be running on behalf of the Beacon in next year’s Brighton Half Marathon.
Making the announcement via a video on social media, the award-winning singer/songwriter invited others to join him, explaining entry would be free of charge, in return for a minimum commitment to fundraise for the Sussex Beacon.
Olly visited the Sussex Beacon in February, meeting with staff and service users, to discover more about the charity’s work supporting and caring for people living with HIV.

Commenting further on the announcement, Olly said: “I’m so excited to be joining Team Beacon for the Brighton Half Marathon! I’ve fallen in love with the charity and the work they do, which is so important and vital for the LGBTQ+ community and people living with HIV.

"I was lucky enough to meet some of the team and service users earlier this year and I can’t wait to see them all again. I’m slightly nervous as I’ve never taken part in a half marathon before, but I can’t think of a better introduction than to race with new friends and help raise some money for an amazing charity."
Olly, who is also a BAFTA-nominated actor, having attracted critical acclaim for his performance as Richie Tozer in the hit Channel 4 series It’s A Sin, takes to the stage towards the end of September, when he assumes the role of Algernon Moncrieff, in the National Theatre & Sonia Friedman co-production of The Importance of Being Earnest, at the Noel Coward Theatre in London’s West End.

Rachel Brett, CEO of the Sussex Beacon, said ”We are absolutely delighted Olly will be joining us in Team Beacon, for the Brighton Half Marathon. His visit to the Beacon earlier in the year meant so much to us, so the fact he is supporting the Beacon in this way is enormously appreciated.
"Being a man of many talents, his presence will help us raise our profile within the community and beyond, even further."
