Nicki Minaj has ignited controversy after reposting a White House TikTok that praised US President Donald Trump’s policies, including an executive order banning trans women and girls from competing in women’s sports.

The video, set to Minaj’s own track Va Va Voom, listed Trump’s “achievements” during his second term under the caption: “All we needed was a new president”. Among the claims were: “No men in women’s sports,” “Border is closed,” and “Our cities are safer than ever.”

Trump’s administration has introduced sweeping anti-trans measures since his return to office in January 2025, including an order declaring there are only two sexes - male and female - and rolling back diversity and inclusion programmes. Another directive threatens to withdraw federal funding from schools that allow trans students to use their chosen names or facilities.

Minaj’s decision to amplify the post has drawn sharp criticism online, with fans accusing her of endorsing transphobic and xenophobic rhetoric. Many pointed out the apparent contradiction between her support for Trump’s immigration policies and her own history as an immigrant from Trinidad and Tobago. One user wrote: “Nicki Minaj being an undocumented immigrant herself with a POC and queer fanbase is shamelessly reposting xenophobic and transphobic propaganda.”

This is not the first time the rapper has expressed admiration for Trump. Earlier this month, she defended him over comments about Christians in Nigeria, saying she felt a “deep sense of gratitude” for his stance on religious freedom.

Neither Minaj nor representatives from the White House have commented on the backlash.
