Netflix has officially lifted the curtain on its highly anticipated LGBTQ+ coming-of-age drama Boots, set to premiere globally on 9 October. Inspired by Greg Cope White’s memoir The Pink Marine, the series offers a poignant and humorous exploration of identity, resilience, and friendship within the rigid confines of 1990s US Marine Corps boot camp.
Originally developed under the working title The Corps, Boots follows Cameron Cope (played by Miles Heizerof 13 Reasons Why) - a closeted, directionless teen - and his best friend Ray McAffey (Liam Oh), the son of a decorated Marine. Together, they navigate the literal and metaphorical landmines of military training, forging unexpected bonds and discovering their true selves in an environment designed to break them down.
The series also stars Vera Farmiga (The Conjuring) as Cameron’s complex mother Barbara, described as a “narcissistic chameleon,” and Max Parker as the haunted Sgt. Sullivan, a decorated Recon Marine grappling with his own secrets. The ensemble cast includes Rico Paris, Dominic Goodman, Angus O’Brien, Blake Burt, and many others.
Created by Andy Parker (Tales of the City) and Jennifer Cecil (One Tree Hill, Umbrella Academy), Boots is executive produced by the late Norman Lear, alongside Brent Miller and others. The series comprises eight hour-long episodes, filmed primarily in New Orleans, Louisiana, and was notably impacted by the 2023 SAG and WGA strikes before resuming production in mid-2024.
Heizer described the show as “funny, uplifting, and emotionally resonant,” promising viewers a rollercoaster of laughter, cheers, and tears.
