A mural is to be revealed for Egyptian human rights activist Sarah Hegazi in front of the 30 Grand Parade building, which crosses with Morley Street, on Saturday, September 5 from 12pm.
A mural is to be revealed for Egyptian human rights activist Sarah Hegazi in front of the 30 Grand Parade building, which crosses with Morley Street, on Saturday, September 5 from 12pm.
Sarah Hegazi took her own life while in exile in Canada. She claimed asylum there after being arrested, detained and tortured for raising the LGBTQ+ flag at a concert in Cairo in 2017.
At the mural’s reveal, speakers will highlight the LGBTQ+ struggle in Egypt (schedule TBA) and organisers are asking those interested in attending to bring a flower, water, a mask and a flag/sign, light a candle and leave a message for victims of rainbow struggles.
Please do not attend if you have symptoms or if you live with someone who has them. Equally, do not attend if you have interacted with someone who now has symptoms in the last two weeks or if you live with a vulnerable person or key worker. In addition, the organisers are running a crowdfunding campaign to raise money for the mural as the artists are donating with their efforts.To help cover the mural’s expenses CLICK HERE.
