British model and trans activist Munroe Bergdorf has issued a powerful call to action for those who consider themselves allies of the trans community, urging them to move beyond symbolic gestures and engage in meaningful support.

In a candid interview with the Daily Mirror, Bergdorf criticised what she described as a “directionless” approach among some allies. “If you want to be a good trans ally, do more than posturing,” she said. “We need people to show up in real, tangible ways - whether that’s challenging transphobia in your workplace, supporting trans-led organisations, or simply listening and learning without centring yourself.”

She added: “Allyship isn’t about optics. It’s about action. It’s about standing up when it’s uncomfortable, not just when it’s convenient.”

Her comments come amid a turbulent time for the UK’s trans community, following a controversial Supreme Court ruling that redefined the legal interpretation of the word “woman” in the Equality Act to refer solely to biological women. The decision has sparked widespread concern among LGBTQ+ advocates, who warn it could undermine hard-won protections for trans individuals.

Bergdorf, who has long been a prominent voice in British activism, recently released a new book, Talk To Me: How to Talk About the Things That Matter, alongside a documentary titled Love & Rage: Munroe Bergdorf. Both projects explore themes of identity, resilience, and the urgent need for inclusive dialogue.

“This is a scary time,” she admitted. “But it’s also the right time to speak up. We can’t afford to be silent - and neither can our allies.”
