Miley Cyrus says 'a month is too short' for Pride Month

Grammy-winning pop star Miley Cyrus, who has just released the album Something Beautiful, has said “a month is too short” for Pride Month, adding, “It’s a lifetime. It’s a lifestyle”.

“My Pride Month message would be that I don’t think Pride should be stuck to a month. A month is too short. It’s a lifetime. It’s a lifestyle,” the performer said while chatting to reporters at the Tribeca Film Festival.

Miley is open and vocal about her identification as a queer person, specifically a pansexual individual. She has discussed her fluid sexuality and how it influences her relationships and her overall understanding of love.

Her Miley Cyrus Foundation, formerly the Happy Hippie Foundation, works to "fight injustice facing homeless youth, LGBTQ+ youth, and other vulnerable populations".

From 2014 to 2016 the foundation served nearly 1,500 homeless youth in Los Angeles, reached more than 25,000 LGBTQ+ youth and their families with resources about gender, and provided social services to trans individuals.

The Flowers singer recalled a conversation with her mother, Tish Cyrus, about her sexuality at age 14. "I remember telling her I admire women in a different way. And she asked me what that meant. And I said, 'I love them. I love them like I love boys.' And it was so hard for her to understand," Miley told Paper magazine in June 2015.

“She didn't want me to be judged, and she didn't want me to go to hell. But she believes in me more than she believes in any God. I just asked for her to accept me. And she has," she continued, later adding, "I don't relate to being boy or girl, and I don't have to have my partner relate to boy or girl."
