Mermaids launches report on trans youth’s experiences in sport
The report highlights what trans youth love about participating, along with the barriers they face and the changes they’d like to see schools, sports clubs, coaches make to create a more inclusive sporting world.
Mermaids, the charity and advocacy organisation that supports gender variant and transgender youth, has launched a report on trans youth’s experiences in sport, highlighting what they love about participating, along with the barriers they face and the changes they’d like to see schools, sports clubs, coaches make to create a more inclusive sporting world.
Mermaids said on Facebook: “The survey revealed that while trans young people love taking part in sport to improve their mental and physical health, 52% felt that their gender identity had definitely been a barrier to them taking part.
“However, the trans youth we surveyed had some great suggestions of how schools, sports clubs, coaches, governing bodies and policy makers could transform their experiences – which we’ve condensed into six recommendations.”
