Married at First Sight UK’s Davide Anica reveals he was kicked out of home after coming out as gay

Davide Anica, one of the new grooms on this year’s Married at First Sight UK, has opened up about the painful experience of being kicked out of his family home after coming out as gay. The 34-year-old, originally from Portugal and now living in the UK, shared his story with fellow contestants during the first episode of the E4 reality series.
Davide revealed that he was just 18 when he came out to his father, a moment that led to him being made homeless and spending time on the streets of Paris. “I remember standing in my room, my dad in the living room, and some of the things he said like, ‘I don’t want to see you for now’ - it broke my heart,” Davide told Metro. He described how, after moving to Paris on a dance scholarship, he found himself without a roof over his head, surviving in hostels and even sleeping in a 24-hour café after being robbed.
Despite the heartbreak and hardship, Davide’s relationship with his father has since healed. “I love my dad with all my heart,” he said. “He had no idea what gay meant - he just didn’t know any better. He is one of the biggest supporters of the gay community now.” Davide hopes that sharing his story on national television will help other LGBTQ+ people and their families, saying, “If it helps one parent to rethink how they talk to their child, then great because words leave a mark”.
During the show’s pre-wedding party, Davide told the other brides, “Dad kicked me out. He just didn’t understand it. He didn’t get it.” He also confirmed that while his parents would not be attending his wedding on the show, he planned to FaceTime his mum on the big day, and his father had offered his support, telling him, “You got this”.
Davide, who previously worked as a flight attendant and is now a content creator, joined Married at First Sight UK in hopes of finding lasting love after a difficult breakup. He is partnered with Keye, a 33-year-old marketing manager, as part of the show’s most diverse line-up yet.
Married at First Sight UK continues on E4, with viewers following Davide’s journey as he seeks happiness and acceptance, both in love and within his family.
