Mariah Carey's iconic 'Protect the Dolls' jacket to be auctioned off for GLAAD's Trans Media Programme

GLAAD, the global LGBTQ+ media advocacy organisation, will host a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity for fans around the world to own a piece of pop culture history!

Starting on Monday, 8 December, GLAAD will host an exclusive opportunity to bid on Mariah Carey’s rhinestone-embellished 'Protect the Dolls' jacket, worn at this year‘s Brighton & Hove Pride, on eBay. The elusive chanteuse and best-selling female artist of all time with over 200 million records sold, famously wore the piece on stage at Pride in the Park on 2 August in support of the trans community.

The pink bedazzled jacket, which features the prominent message "Protect the Dolls" on the back will be up for global bidding on eBay. The auction is set to run until 15 December HERE, with 100% of the proceeds benefiting GLAAD’s Transgender Media Programme.

GLAAD’s staff, which has included trans people for over 25 years, is committed to working with the media to fairly and accurately tell the stories of trans people. GLAAD works with national news outlets, TV networks, film studios and Spanish-language media to include real stories about the trans community. The organisation also works closely with trans people and trans advocacy groups to raise awareness about transgender issues. GLAAD provides free media trainings to empower trans people to share their stories.

"Protect the Dolls" is a phrase that has been used in support of trans equality, specifically support for trans women, originating in ballroom culture and popularised by a shirt from designer Conner Ives.
