A series of household names have responded to pressure from the LGBTQ+ campaign Include Mx by adding the gender-neutral title Mx to their forms, ending their exclusion of non-binary customers.

Wickes, Debenhams, Dunelm, Boden and Cotswold Outdoor have all added Mx since Include Mx publicly demanded that they do so, a campaign which was founded by journalist and campaigner Tom Pashby (they/them) in late 2020.

The news that millions of customers, including the 30,000 non-binary people who live in England and Wales, now have the option to use Mx, comes on International Non-Binary People’s Day (Friday, July 14).

Tom Pashby, founder of Include Mx, said: “I am thrilled that campaigning by Include Mx has led to this immensely positive change for people who use the gender-neutral title.

“Non-binary people find ourselves excluded from being able to use products and services when we are forced into using a title that would be inappropriate.

“Driving licences in the UK issued by the DVLA include the option of Mx, so there can be identity check issues when certain companies force us into using a title which is binary gendered such as Mr or Miss.

“Organisations must consider their non-binary customers when designing forms.”

Include Mx is an LGBTQ+ campaign celebrating organisations which include the gender-neutral title Mx as a title on their forms, and encouraging others to adopt Mx. More info HERE
