The CEO of LGBTQ+ charity Liberate Guernsey has criticised an “idiot” who vandalised a rainbow-painted post-box, which was sprayed with red and blue paint.

Ellie Jones, CEO of the charity, said it was “a really disappointing thing to wake up to”.

She said: “I don’t know if it is motivated by hatred or annoyance at the rainbow, or if it is just mindless vandalism.

“I’m just disappointed really, it’s just a bit sad that things like this happen.”

She also said that, despite the vandalism, those who were upset by the damage should remember “there is a whole community of people who really love and support you”.

She said: “All we need to do is bear in mind we had 6,000 people celebrating diversity [for Channel Islands Pride].

“So one idiot who wants to paint over something isn’t going to take that away.”
