Keith Urban brings queer anthem ‘Pink Pony Club’ to Mar-a-Lago

In a moment that has left LGBTQ+ fans stunned and intrigued, country superstar Keith Urban performed Chappell Roan’s Pink Pony Club - a song celebrated as a queer liberation anthem - at a private gathering at Mar-a-Lago, the Florida estate of US President Donald Trump.

The event, hosted by Australian billionaire Anthony Pratt, featured Urban delivering an acoustic set that included Bob Marley’s Is This Love and Roan’s Pink Pony Club. For those unfamiliar, Roan’s track is a heartfelt ode to self-discovery and queer joy, inspired by her first visit to West Hollywood’s iconic gay bar, The Abbey. It’s a song that champions finding your community and embracing who you truly are.

Urban’s choice of material is striking given the setting. Trump’s administration was widely criticised for rolling back LGBTQ+ protections, making the performance of a song synonymous with queer empowerment at his resort a bold, if puzzling, move. Social media lit up with reactions ranging from disbelief to delight, with many praising the irony: “Keith Urban singing Pink Pony Club at Mar-a-Lago is the camp twist 2025 didn’t know it needed,” one fan posted.

Urban himself has previously spoken about his emotional connection to the song, saying: “Who doesn’t want to find a safe place, wherever that is? You just want to find your people… God, that speaks to me.”
