Across the pond LA-based singer, songwriter and dancer Stewart Taylor hails from a small town just outside New York City where he first discovered his passion for music. Writing songs and lighting up local talent shows and Lower East Side clubs.

Drawing influences from early Prince and George Michael, Stewart's music channels heartache, gorgeousness and humour delivering bops that bring the fun back to pop!

Stewart made his R&B inspired debut in 2019 with the worldwide release of Mess Your Hair Up. Fast forward to late 2023, and his catchy pop/R&B track Favorite Ex hit the scene earning extra buzz thanks to a remix by Scott Storch and Mentol.

The success of the single led Stewart to sign with Billboard chart-topping label Sapphire Records marking an exciting new chapter in his career.

Nightmares, Stewart’s first release under Sapphire Records dropped worldwide at the end of 2023....

In 2024, Stewart dropped Even, a super catchy and with a distinct European dance-pop vibe courtesy of Romanian hitmaker MADS and a futuristic official music video!

Beyond writing for himself, Stewart Taylor has crafted songs for a diverse lineup of artists including Romanian pop star Antonia, SB19’s Josh Cullen, rising US pop artist Ceranda and RuPaul’s Drag Race icons JuJu Bee, Mo Heart and Manila Luzon. As a dancer, he even shared the screen with Justin Timberlake in the No Angels music video, released in early 2024.

A proud and active voice in the LGBTQ+ community, Stewart’s coming out journey was featured in the New York Times bestselling book, It Gets Better: Coming Out, Overcoming Bullying, and Creating A Life Worth Living.

Now, with his brand new single Emilio and his directorial debut making waves, there’s no better time to dive head first into a conversation with Stewart Taylor. An artist unafraid to be his authentic self....

Hey Stew how you doing today?

I’m doing alright thank you! Getting over a cold and staying in bed with my puppy today. He’s a great cuddle buddy.

For our readers meeting you for the first time, what is the 411, give us the scoop?

I’m Stewart Taylor! I make music for all of the weird kids who feel different but who everyone will think are cool later in life. I write songs about life and relationships and whatever else I’m going through. I’ve worked with Justin Timberlake, Charlie Puth and a million other people whose songs you’ve probably heard on my crazy path in the music business. Now I’m working on my debut album.

Your new single Emilio switches between English and Spanish, me encanta eso! So do you have some Spanish roots or were you just vibing creatively with it?

This was a creative choice that came directly from falling for a Latino man. I grew up learning Spanish in school and listening to Latin artists like Selena, Shakira, Alejandro Sans and Ricky Martin.

Living in cities like New York, Boston and Los Angeles also exposed me to a lot of Spanish speakers and friends. The beautiful language finally made its way into my music y me encanta hombres Latinos tambien!

Who or what is the inspiration behind Emilio?

I was inspired by a man named Emilio who I was working with at the time. I couldn’t be with him romantically so there was a lot of tension and playfulness between us. I came up with the chorus of the song when we were together and sang it to him on the spot.

Your choreography is always on point, have you always had a love for performing?

Thank you so much! My choreographers have pushed me really hard over the years and dancing makes me happy. Shout out to Julie Vegliante and Johnny Rice! I’ve loved performing since I was a seven year old kid in theater camp and there’s nothing else like it.

How do you feel about the importance of queer artists having space to share their stories and creativity with the world?

It’s extremely important. People have always tried to silence queer voices, and queer voices will never be silenced as long as artists and the community keep speaking up.

"So much of the music and entertainment that our culture consumes is made by queer people. The world would be a hell of a lot less interesting without us."

Chappell Roan, Omar Apollo, Troye Sivan and Adam Lambert are a few of the queer artists who have inspired me along the way and made life more colourful.

Switching gears to dating, what are a few green flags that tell you someone’s a keeper?

Green flags are emotional security, genuine kindness and a sense of humour!

And on the flip side, any red flags you steer clear of?

Red flags I steer clear of are people with bad tempers, pessimistic viewpoints on life, and violent tendencies. NO THANKS!

When you've got a day off, what do you get up to in LA?

On a day off when I’m not in the studio, I love to take my Goldendoodle to the park, see my friends in Hollywood, work out, go for a hike, and read.

What's your star sign?

I’m a Cancer.

Omg sameee, how's Brodie and Hank btw?

My pup Brodie and my tuxedo cat Hank are doing great thanks. I love my animals so much!

What do you cherish the most about being a part of the LGBTQ+ community?

I cherish my community’s strength and resilience. We’re still here for a reason.

I've been wanting to know this one for a while now so I'm just going to say it....are your curls natural? (so jealous if they are)

I have naturally wavy and curly hair. Sometimes I do a little treatment to make my curls extra curly though.

"The more curls the better!"

Any plans for trips or shows in the UK?

Believe it or not, I’ve never been to the UK....I would love to travel and perform there soon though. I actually think the UK would get me way more than American audiences. The Brits are far more open to unconventional artists and I’ve always loved you guys for that.
