"The freedom to be whoever you are is real, even if it takes work to hold on to it."

"The freedom to be whoever you are is real, even if it takes work to hold on to it."
I stumbled upon Patricia Baloge on Spotify recently and I’m so glad I did, I've been replaying her tracks nonstop ever since. Her sound is fresh, bold, genre-defying and emotionally charged! Each song feels like a passport to a neon-lit dance floor or a sultry night in a slinky cocktail bar in The Big Apple.
Ghanaian artist, producer and DJ Patrica Baloge is based in NYC and her music blends Afrohouse, synthwave, R&B and pop, all wrapped in her instantly recognisable sultry vocals. Her work is a celebration of womanhood, identity, and cultural pride.
Patrica's debut EP Womb explores rebirth and inner freedom, while Queen of the Dawn dives deeper into the experience of being a black woman today-resilient, radiant, and unapologetically herself. Patricia brings a fierce authenticity that resonates with anyone navigating identity and self-expression.
In this interview with Patricia, we explore how her music heals, how her heritage shapes her sound and what it means to stand tall-especially within the LGBTQ+ community, where voice and visibility are everything.
I’m a Ghanaian artist, music producer, and DJ from France, now based in New York. My sound blends house, afro, and electronic influences, always with a focus on storytelling and emotion. For me, music is about energy and presence, balancing strength and sensuality, light and shadow. I produce my own tracks and I’ve been steadily building a catalogue that reflects not just genre but identity. My goal is to anchor authenticity and my story into sound.
It was both organic and intentional. Music has always been part of me, and from the moment I stopped resisting my path in it, it came naturally. I write and produce to shape my own world. Every release is a release for me, not just a song, but a way of cutting ties with what doesn’t belong and stepping further into who I’m becoming. So yes, it’s organic because it flows through me, but it’s intentional because I know exactly what I want it to do: shape my world, filter my environment, and reach the people meant to walk with me.
For me, music isn’t just expression, it’s freedom.
Euphoria was born out of a moment when I felt the world pressing in, trying to limit and control me. Instead of letting it cage me, I turned that weight into sound. The lyrics "Euphoria, as I break the chains… Hallelujah, I claimed my name" are about that exact breakthrough: stepping into my authority.
Writing the track was both resistance and liberation. Later on, Shlomi Shanti created a remix that added another layer for the dancefloor but at its core Euphoria is about freedom and claiming your place in the world.
I’m a Taurus, though I don’t really follow astrology anymore. People often say Tauruses are grounded and persistent, and I do see those qualities in myself. I’d also add a quiet independence. Once I know what’s true for me, I stand by it with calm certainty. For me, that’s not stubbornness in a negative sense, it’s simply being rooted in who I am.
A green flag for me is someone who’s truly done the work on themselves. Someone who’s faced their own shadows and came out grounded, instead of projecting that weight onto others. At this stage in life, I find it deeply attractive when a man carries himself with self-awareness, steadiness, and the kind of presence that makes the people around him feel stronger. That kind of energy can’t be faked, and it’s rare.
A red flag for me is someone who wants to dim my light. That’s an instant disqualifier. A healthy partner isn’t intimidated by your shine, they add to it. And if they’re really healthy, they’ll even amplify it.
I’ve always been in love with music itself rather than with any single artist. Growing up, I was surrounded by so many sounds, from the soulful power of 80s and 90s pop, to the rhythms of Ghanaian and African music, to the richness of French culture. That mix shaped me.
For me, it’s never been about following one icon, but about the feeling music creates, its ability to move people, open worlds, and tell stories in ways words alone never could. That’s what made me fall in love with it from the very beginning.
I think technology has taken away a lot of the barriers. If you want to create, the tools are there. It’s about acting on the vision you have. What would have taken years before can now be built in weeks, even days. For me, that’s exciting, because it means individuality can shine more than ever.
Streaming and tech have opened the door for artists to define themselves on their own terms, without waiting for permission.
The future of DJing and music will always come back to presence and energy, but now we have more ways than ever to share that with the world.
One standout for me was performing at House of Yes in New York. It’s a space that’s renowned for its inclusivity and freedom, and what struck me most was the energy of people coming together to celebrate without judgment.
Once you strip away orientation, labels, even religion, what’s left is our shared humanity: joy, pain, connection.
Music brings that to the forefront, and that’s what I love about it.
Yes, Studio Baloge is a New York–based brand that I founded and design for. I create pieces for women who like to make a statement through the way they accessorize. Each design carries a bold subtlety and a sense of self-possession. Studio Baloge reflects the woman I am and the women who inspire me.
You can find it online (HERE) and in select boutiques in New York and Miami, with more to come.
What I love most about New York is that it sharpens you. This city doesn’t hand out wisdom gently. It gives it to you through bumps, challenges, and moments that test your core.
Living here has forced me to find my authenticity in a way I don’t think any other place could. It’s not always easy, but that process gave me discernment and strength I’ll carry forever.
And beyond that intensity, there’s the beauty of New York’s diversity of people, energy, and style. Here you see it all, from fashion, music, culture and expression.
The freedom to be whoever you are is real, even if it takes work to hold on to it.
That’s the duality of New York: it’s tough, but it makes you sharper, and it’s worth it.
Yes, I have a few releases in the pipeline that I’m really excited about, each one takes me deeper into my sound. I don’t like to announce too much before the moment, because I want the music to speak first.
Performance-wise, I would absolutely love to bring my sound to the UK. The energy there, especially around house and electronic music has always inspired me. So while there aren’t dates confirmed yet, it’s definitely on my map, and I’d love for the right opportunity to align. For me, it’s never about just touring anywhere; it’s about creating the right kind of experience, in the right spaces.
