Prolific pop artist and virtuoso pianist Micah McLaurin has graced stages around the globe as a soloist with major orchestras. Known for his classical brilliance and bold creative spirit, he’s now stepping deeper into the pop spotlight with the release of his shimmering new single, Dancing With My Broken Heart, out today via Casa Doce Music.

After relocating to New York, Micah found a vibrant home in queer culture and began channeling his extraordinary talent into celebrating everything that makes him unique. In 2022, he went viral with Rhapsody in Gaga, a piano medley that paid homage to Mother Monster aka Lady Gaga while showcasing his classical chops.

That same year, he bridged genres with Diamonds, an instrumental album recorded with the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra and a dream team of collaborators.

Fast forward to now: Dancing With My Broken Heart is a glitter soaked, disco-tinged anthem that transforms heartbreak into euphoric pop catharsis. Produced by Mark Taylor (Cher, Gaga, Kylie Minogue) and co-written with Simon Wilcox (Carly Rae Jepsen), the track pulses with emotional release and dancefloor magic. “It started with wanting to write a Euro-style dance song with chords I love,” Micah shares. “Then out of nowhere I sang ‘baby, I’ll be dancing with my broken heart’ and it just clicked.”

Micah’s genre-defying artistry has caught the attention of industry heavyweights, leading to collaborations with Poo Bear (Justin Bieber, J Balvin), producer duo PhD (Zedd, One Direction), and creative director Nicola Formichetti (Gaga). He’s also worked with iconic designers like Zaldy, Dolce & Gabbana, Alexander McQueen, Vivienne Westwood and more.

But today it’s all about Dancing With My Broken Heart, a radiant new chapter in Micah’s journey, on all streaming platforms now. Join me as we dive head first into a sparkling conversation with the fabulous Micah about life, love, fashion, even Eurovision and the glittering joy of healing through music. Oh and chicken tenders.

Heyyy Micah, happy release day! How's your day been so far?

Hey Dale! Thank you so much! I’m in LA for some writing sessions and it’s lovely and cosy and pouring rain.

For our readers who aren't familiar with yourself or your music (yet), how would you introduce yourself?

I just like to introduce myself as Micah because almost nobody says my last name. A lot of the time it’s because they don’t even know my last name. Even close friends. I’m a concert pianist turned pop artist, singer and songwriter living in NYC.

You've made a bold move from classical to pop music, what sparked that shift and would you ever go back to classical or blend both?

I didn’t leave classical music, I still practice Chopin Études and quite a bit of my repertoire to stay in shape because I still love it. There were things I didn’t love which ignited the gradual shift towards pop.

I was missing a sense of freedom, and when I start arranging and writing other music, I loved it. It’s a different feeling than playing the notes exactly as they’re written in someone else’s composition. Writing songs with others is a collaborative process and as a pianist, I had mostly worked alone. So, it’s nice to get out of your head.

I blend both during my live performances. For example, I’ll do a bombastic piano opening and then shift smoothly into a pop song.

Dancing With My Broken Heart, your new single out today is expectedly gorgeous. What's the story behind it?

Thank you! I think we’ve all been hurt by someone or people we love. I have.

This song isn’t about being over the heartbreak, it’s about living your life anyway even if you still feel that wound. It’s also not a blame game because I may have hurt them too.

It was inspired by a relationship that had to pause because I had to figure out who I was and live life without such strict confines. It was written from a place of needing more in my life but being in a relationship with someone who kept trying to pull me back. I needed to put the relationship aside for the moment. Not out of spite but because I need time to live.

Hear me out. Eurovision. Have you ever thought about applying? Because I can see it.

A lot of people have said that to me and for some reason it sounds appealing, so I just might….let’s see!

Why do you think queer artists so often embrace freedom, individuality and sexuality in their work?

Probably because so many of us grew up suppressed or oppressed. It takes so much to fight that once you’re outside the nest, so I think we use those themes in our art to heal ourselves and hopefully others. Maybe even to recover what we feel we lost out on growing up.

When you're dating someone new, are there any red flags you keep an eye out for?

I become obsessed way too fast to see the red flags!

Alright so let’s get super personal....what did you have for dinner last night? I need inspo for tonight.

I’m on a diet so I had chicken tenders with fries and chocolate cake….sometimes you just need that, you know?

When you’re not in the studio or turning looks at fashion events, where do you escape to?

I hibernate in my apartment but I like to go out in NYC because there’s always something spontaneous around the corner.

I’m more into YouTube cosy days. I like to keep the TV on 24/7. I feel like it keeps me company and distracts me from my thoughts. I like travel videos, especially hotel reviews and videos of just walking in places like snowy, wintery landscapes with ASMR.

Who are your biggest style inspirations?

Lady Gaga, Madonna, Cruella de Vil, and Queen Elizabeth I.

What’s your star sign and do you feel like you live up to the traits or are you not into astrology?

I’m a Libra, but I don’t know much about astrology. I don’t like being put into boxes, so I refuse to believe that all Libra’s are the same.

That said, I do feel like there’s accuracy in some readings….

Any upcoming gigs or travel plans in the UK we should know about?

No shows in the UK as of now, but I was just there a few weeks ago finishing up Dancing With My Broken Heart with my producer Mark Taylor!

And finally, the most important and deep question of all....who's your crush of the day? (I ask everyone this, it's become a tradition).

Probably some Instagram model or actor from Spain....

They’re always from Spain.

Dancing With My Broken Heart is on all streaming platforms HERE and so are Rhapsody in Gaga, Satisfied, Baboom, Remember Me (Majestic Remix) and Remember Me Sunset Remix Until Dawn.
