Human Gay Male, a group for "gay men who reject gender identity ideology", launches legal action against Brighton pub

Human Gay Male (HGM), a group for "gay men who reject gender identity ideology", has announced plans to take legal action against a Brighton pub after it cancelled a booking in August.

The controversy centres on the Lion & Lobster pub in Brighton, which allegedly cancelled HGM’s scheduled event hours before it was due to begin. The venue cited a policy against hosting groups that “promote political ideologies or views”.

Terf Watch Brighton, which shines a "light on everything Brighton's anti-trans activists would rather keep dark", posted on Instagram: “HGM did not inform the pub of the type of event they were hosting, that the event was publicly advertised, or that they suspected disruption to the event was likely (to the extent that they were in contact with the police).

"The nature of this event further had the potential to harm the reputation of the pub. These are reasonable grounds for cancellation, not based on the views of HGM."

A spokesperson for the pub told The Telegraph: "When we accepted the booking, we were unaware that it was anything other than a social gathering.

"We acted when we became aware of the adversarial/political nature of the event, with its associated threats of physical violence."
